<br /> // <5- <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> . --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> To: Patricia Morrison, Clerk Administrator <br /> From: Catherine Iago, Deputy Clerk <br /> Re: Purchase of IBM Wheelwriter 6 Typewriter <br /> Date: August 5, 1987 <br /> ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> As you k,now, the typewriter I am currently using is an IBM Selectric I, <br /> which was purchased in 1969 and has no correction or storage capabilities. <br /> We have two IBM typewriter currently in use by staff members: <br /> - IBM Wheelwriter 5, which has storage and correction features. <br /> - IBM Quietwriter 7, which has storage and correction features and is <br /> also used as a printer for the IBM computer. <br /> When I contacted a vendor to set up a trial use of an IBM typewriter, he <br /> informed my that the Wheelwriter 6 will replace the Wheelwriter 5 model. <br /> I was also informed that the Wheelwriter 6 has greater storage capacity <br /> than the model 5, it can be used as a printer for the IBM computer with <br /> some modification and it sells for approximately the same price as the <br /> . model 5. <br /> : Funds were budgeted in 1987 for the purchase of a third computer station, <br /> however, I would recommend the purchase of a typewriter, rather than an <br /> additional computer, at this time, for the following reasons: <br /> - Limited office space for a computer station. <br /> - Justification of expenditure; since utility program is not operational <br /> cat this time, computer time is more easily scheduled. <br /> - Typewriter purchase could be considered a start toward purchase of <br /> the computer station; since the Wheelwriter 6 can be modified for <br /> use as a printer. <br /> - Supply compatibility. <br /> I have contacted two vendors for price quotes: <br /> Smith Office Products IBM Wheelwriter 6 $845.00 <br /> With Trade-in 795.00 <br /> (optional) 1 year Maintenance 85.00 <br /> MIl Office Systems IBM Wheelwriter 6 $836.00 <br /> With Trade-in 786.00 <br /> 1 year Maintenance 90.00 (approx.) <br /> I recommend the purchase of the IBM Wheelwriter 6 from MIl Office Systems; <br /> they have provided excellent support services for the staff. <br /> . <br />
