Village of Arden Hills
February 19, 1987
Village Hall
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:32 p.m. by Chairman Schultek.
Roll Call
Present: Dick Schultek, Bill Gillies, Paul Malone, David McClung,
Bud Steglich, Jerome Timm, Ed Trolander, Donald Zehm
Absent: Roy Ambli, Robert Carley, Duane Long
Also Present: Mayor Robert Woodburn, Councilmember Nancy Hansen, Public Works
Supervisor Robert Raddatz, Clerk Administrator Patricia Morrison
Approval of Minutes
It was moved by Timm, seconded by Zehm, that the minutes of January 15 be
approved as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.
Request for "No Parkinl>;" Sil>;ns, New BriJ(hton Road,.alonl>; Hazelnut Park
Fred Gilbertson, 3308 New Brighton Road. presented this request on behalf of
himself and his neighbors. While adequate parking for those using the hockey
rink is provided through a cooperative arrangement with Trinity Lutheran
Church, he observes that Bethel students using the rink for broomball, as well
as some parents dropping children off for hockey practice, have been parking
along New Brighton Road. The excessive speeds on the road, the width of the
road when snow is piled on the sides, as well as the curve just past the park
. area, makes parking in the street dangerous for those doing so as well as for
the residents along the street. An additional concern with parking in the
street in this area was the near proximity of the fire station.
Jerry Timm, who had viewed the area, and Officer Herbst concurred with Mr.
Gilbertson's statements. Herbst stated that this is a county road and a
request for its being posted must go through them; they have a minimum rule of
300' "No Parking" if such signs are installed; he recommends the area of no
parking extend from the first house north of the rink to the first house north
of the Church parking lot.
Councilmember Hansen stated that the County has approved lowering the speed
limit on New Brighton Road from 40 mph to 35 mph, and new signs will be posted
in the near future. She suggested checking with the Church to ensure they were
agreeable to parking being shifted 'to that location. (Secy's note..the Village
has an ongoing contract, prepared by Attorney Lynden, in which the Church gives
permission for use of its lot for park activities).
Motion was made by Timm, seconded by Steglich, that Committee recommend to
Council that the County be requested to install "No Parking" signs along New
Brighton Road, 300' from first house north of the rink to the Church lot.
Motion carried unanimously. Herbst also suggested a letter to Bethel College
requesting their students park in the appropriate area.
Police and Fire Department Reports
. Timm noted "Thefts over $50" fairly high...Herbst explained these were mostly
car thefts; the perpetrator of most of these has been apprehended. Clearance
records on burglaries since January has been almost 100%.
--
