MEMORANDUM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: March 6, 1987
To: Mayor and Council
From: Nancy K. Hansen
Re: Fire Board and Contract Issues
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/5/87 Up to last week, it was the assumption of all three city
representatives and the Fire Department that a three-city fire contract
would be drafted to meet the July 1, 1987 deadline. At the last meeting,
the three representatives discussed having a three-city Council meeting to
discuss level of service and level of financial commitment from each city.
This meeting has been cancelled (you never found out about it) and the
current thinking is that each city will draft a contract and set a budget
with the Lake Johanna Fire Department. That means Arden Hills will need
to agree on a contract and an amount that we will pay for fire protection.
We will then need to establish a similar arrangement covering Station
Four. (That will be shared with Shoreview.)
Issues
. 1. Do we want to continue on Station 41; if so, are we not going to
participate with Station 2 (Highway 49) at all?
2. If we use Dave McGraw's (Council from Shoreview) idea, we will then
pay 1007. of Station 1, 507. of Station 4, and none for the other
stations.
3. What things do we want added to the contract? (I'll bring in former
contracts. current one and the one drafted for Station 3.)
4. Should we have a work meeting to discuss issues and have the Fire
Chief come to discuss some of his concerns, including how fighters
respond, Le. the number of stations called when there is a fire
alarm?
5. Should we continue participation with Station 3 until/after Number 4
is underway?
.
