II/)-
MEMORANDUM
. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: September 10, 1987
To: Patricia Morrison, Clerk Administrator
From: Catherine Iago, Deputy Clerk
Re: Purchase of Computer
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As per your request, I have further researched the purchase of a computer for
my office use. On Tuesday, September 9th, Shirley and I went to Ameridata
Company to view and compare the Ameridata PC computer and the new IBM PS2 Model 30.
We found the main difference between the two computers is that the IBM PS2 uses a
smaller diskette (3-1/2 inches).
Listed below is a price comparison of the two computer systems, with hard disk
drive and including costs for networking and a printer:
IBM PS2 Model 30 $1,492.00 Ameridata PC $1,795.00
IBM Monochrome Display 175.00 (Includes 640K, Amber,
IBM DOS 3.3 80.00 DOS and Keyboard)
Public Sector Administrator -0-
. On-site installation Smart Care 200.00 On-site installation 200.00
(one year warranty) Smart Care (1 Yr. Warranty)
SUB TOTAL $1,947.00 $1,995.00
Cost for Network 555.00 Cost for Network 555.00
Printer (IBM Wheelwriter 3) 836.00 Printer (IBM Wheelwriter 3) 836.00
TOTAL $3,338.00 $3,386.00
I would recommend purchase of the IBM PS2 Model 30, at a cost of $3,338.00, even
though it is a relatively new product on the market. IBM is a reputable firm and
the smaller diskettes have a larger information storage capacity. The IBM PS2
Model 30 is capable of being networked to our current system and the diskette
costs are approximately the same as the IBM PC diskettes. It is my opinion that
the IBM PS2 Model 30 will sufficiently serve the needs of my job responsibilities.
I would further request approximately $200.00 for purchase of office furniture
to house the computer. The furniture for the two computers currently in use in
the office was purchased on sale at St. Paul Book and Stationary. I have not had
the opportunity to study what type of furniture could be accommodated in my
office, however, I believe $200.00 should be sufficient to purchase furniture to
house the computer system.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
.
