Buckley, Parks Director <br /> SUBJECT: city-wide Flower Power Gardens <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> At the March 27 Park & Recreation meeting, the Committee discussed <br /> the proposed City Flower Gardens summer program. The program was <br /> divided into four phases: <br /> 1- Beautify the neighborhood parks by constructing flower beds at <br /> the entrance of all city park sites. <br /> 2. Beautify each neighborhood by encouraging flower beds at the <br /> base of the mailboxes. <br /> 3 . Beautify the City gateways with flower beds. Proposed gateway <br /> sites are City Hall, Lexington/96, Co. Rd. E/Lexington <br /> (McGuires) , Co. Rd. E/Old Hwy. 10 (across from Lindey's) , Co. <br /> . Rd. E-2/0Id Hwy. 10 (Chatham Open Space) , Co. Rd. D/Fairview <br /> (Sutton Place) , Co. Rd. F/Hamline (CPI) . <br /> 4. Beautify Co. Rd. E (downtown Arden Hills) . Work with the <br /> Chamber of Commerce and businesses to develop a plan for Co. <br /> Rd. E. beautification. <br /> The Parks Committee recommended that the neighborhood mailbox <br /> flowers and gateway gardens be considered this year. <br /> Special attention will be given to contact Co. Rd. E businesses to <br /> establish beds along County Rd. E and along Hwy. 51- <br /> Propose City's financial committment to the flower gardens. <br /> Neiqhborhood Mailboxes <br /> Park Dept. would seek volunteers to coordinate the program in the <br /> neighborhoods by advertising the program in the Town Crier and <br /> newspaper articles. No financial committment would be made. <br /> Gatewav Gardens <br /> Park Dept. would be responsible for making the flower beds, buying <br /> the flowers and watering the flower beds throughout the Summer. <br /> . Aaron Boeckermann, City resident, is very interested in organizing <br /> the planting and weeding as an Eagle Scout community service <br /> project. Additional volunteers also would be secured to plant and <br /> care for the beds. <br />
