CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
. ===================================================================
DATE: April 5, 1.990
TO: Mayor and city council
FROM: Dan Winkel, P.W. Supervisor
SUBJECT: Additional Phone Lines for city Hall
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
At the April 3 staff meeting, we discussed the need for two
additional phone lines to serve city Hall. It appears that the
current four lines are being used constantly and it is becoming
increasingly difficult to obtain an open line, either in or out.
Due to the increase in staffing and the fact that we all seem to
need the phone more often, staff recommends that we install two
additional telephone lines.
I contacted US West Communications for prices on additional
lines. It will cost $1.6.75 each for installation of each line
into the building. There will also be a $16 processing fee for
their office time. The monthly rates will be $48.32 for each
. line, which is approximately what we pay for the existing lines.
We will also incur additional costs for connecting the new lines
into the current phone system.
I also contacted Cady Communications, the local representative for
the Telrad system we now use. They would charge $52 per hour to
connect the new phone lines into the existing system. Any other
charges would be for equipment that may be needed to update the
system to accommodate the two additional lines.
The additional phone lines are not budgeted in 1.990 and would have
to be charged to Government Buildings from the General Fund. We
have $4,000 in the 1990 budget for telephones. By installing
these lines we will incur an additional $1,200 in unbudgeted
expense in 1990.
Staff will be available to answer any questions at the April 9
Council meeting.
DW:madlr
.
---
