CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
. =================================================================
DATE: April 2, 1990
TO: Mayor and city council
FROM: John T. Buckley, Parks Director
SUBJECT: Proposed Purchase - Infield Groomer, Lawn Sweeper
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
$23,600 is budgeted in 1990 for purchasing a lawn sweeper and
trailer ($14,000 budgeted) and an infield groomer ($9,600
budgeted) . This money is budgeted from the Certificate of
Indebtedness.
A lawn sweeper is needed to remove the leaves and glass from the
parks during the Spring and Fall clean-up.
Basically, there are two types of leaf vacs on the market. One
type picks up leaves with a vacuum suction. The other uses a
rubber de-thatching brush, acting similar to a power rake. The
de-thatching brush machine would best service glass pick-up that
. might be imbedded in grass.
BIDS:
Olathe 48" High Lift, 20 H.P. sweeper $ 8,590
LTG Power Equipment Company
Olathe 48" High Lift, 20 H.P. sweeper 8,272
MTI Distributing Co.
Smithco Sweep Star 60" High Lift 10,495
(new machine on market this year)
RECOMMENDATION:
Purchase 48" Olathe from MTI Distributing for $8,272. Existing
trailers would be used to transport the sweeper, therefore a new
trailer would not be purchased at this time.
INFIELD GROOMER
The Department has been using a Toro Workmaster groomer for the
past ten years. This has been a dependable machine, however, it
is limited in its capacity to move infield material when wet.
.
