~ ,
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
. MEMORANDUM
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
DATE: March 8, 1990
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Dan Winkel, Public Works Supervisor
SUBJECT: Spring Clean-up Day, May 5, 1990
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Spring Clean-up Day with Shoreview will be held on Saturday, May 5,
1990 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
I've met with Mr. Gene Kruckenberg, who is the Environmental Officer for
Shoreview. He estimates that the cost for Arden Hills' participation
would be somewhere between $2,500 and $3,000. All disposal costs are
subject to participation from the residents with residents paying half and
the City paying half. The costs for Arden Hills are based on the fact
that our population is less than half of Shoreview's and we will probably
have about 1/3 as many people participate as Shoreview.
. Additional costs to be considered will be for staffing and printing and
mailing fliers. Mr. Kruckenberg thought that at least two employees from
our City would be needed to assist. Shoreview had four employees at their
Fall clean-up and all were paid overtime for the day. The cost for
printing and mailing fliers was about $1,800 for Shoreview last Fall. I
would expect that our costs would be somewhat lower. Hopefully, we can
send fliers out with the April Town Criers. I would think that our total
costs, excluding employee salaries, would not exceed $4,000. It should
also be noted that Shoreview has agreed to get bids from the disposal
services and we should know in early April what disposal costs will be.
I have enclosed a letter from Mr. Kruckenberg regarding costs, and also a
copy of Shoreview's flier that was sent out for their Fall clean-up day.
Our staff should be able to put together our own flier and insert in the
Town Crier at a reasonable cost.
ACTION REQUIRED:
Council should authorize participation with Shoreview in the Spring
Clean-up Day and authorize the expenditure of funds of approximately
$4,000 for this project.
DK:madlr
. attachments
