, ,
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
. -----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DATE: May 24, 1990
TO: Mayor and City council
FROM: John T. Buckley, Parks Director
SUBJECT: Arden Trail Improvement
----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
The notice regarding the trail improvements stimulated a
typical, strong reaction from the residents along the NSP power
easement.
The ideal situation is to have all trails in place before houses
are built. All communities developing trails have experienced
the same strong negative reaction to trail development when
homes are established first. Disasters predicted by the
residents do not materialize.
The 55 foot wide NSP power line corridor has been used as a
neighborhood trail for over 20 years. The section of the trail
. from Glenpaul to stowe has received a marked increase in useage
by all age groups since being asphalted last summer. An asphalt
trail from Glenpaul to county Road E will serve as an important
major linkage to Hazelnut, Sampson, and Tony Schmidt parks for
the neighborhood. This will take many of the bikers and walkers
off narrow New Brighton Road.
JTB:madlr
attachments
.
