CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
. MEXm\NOOM
Dl\TE: February 51 1992
TO: Mayor and city Council
FRCM: Dan w:illkell Public works SUperintendent ~
SUBJECT: Condition of West Round Lake Road - F.Y.I.
I am writing this memorandum to inform the Council about the tremendous
pothole problem that we have on West Round Lake Boulevard. It appears
that the changing weather and poor existing road =nditions have
combined to =eate a real hazard to drive on. We have spent JOClSt of
this week trying to patch potholes 1 and open frozen culverts on this
road.
On Wednesday, I had New Brighton come over with the lIlOtor grader to
assist with ice removal and also level off gravel that was put in place
to fill the potholes. We have alxlve six blocks of roadway that has
deteriorated to the point of being beyond repair. We hauled in recycled
gravel to place over the existing roadway to Irake it passable for
. traffic.
On Tuesday, I had Terry Maurer and March Graham review the roadway. We
will be re-evaluating our roads for the pavement management program this
spring and I suspect that West Round Lake Road will be at the top of the
list for reconstruction.
I do feel that we have enough interest from the businesses on the
roadway that we may want to try to reconstruct this year if possible.
The existing roadway will no be able to wait until the entire area is
developed to be rebJilt.
I would urge the Council to start the process for possible
reconstruction of this road as soon as possible.
rM/ts
M92-41
.
