RAMSEY COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
. [Fffi\CGO [!.OlfO [g~ OJ) [fJ @ ffi\ If [g
May, 1992
Vol. 3, No.2
MAPLEWOOD
As you drive by the site of the Maplewood Library on Beam Ave. and Kennard
Sf., you really notice a change. The exterior brick, in two colors, is being installed over
the block work. The roof decking is being placed on the flat portions of the roof.
Grading of the site is in progress (wouldn't we like some of that rich, dark soil for our
gardens?!), and you can really get a sense of how the building will fit into the
wetland area immediately behind it. In fact, an egret was spotted in the wetland
area, not disturbed at all by all of the construction activity going on next to its home.
Electrical and mechanical rough-in is continuing, and when you walk into the
building, you are ableto see howthe rooms are laid out, and geta feel fortheirsizes.
The topping bn the pre-cast area on the second floor has been poured and the
. chiller for the HV AC system has been delivered to the site. The construction is still on
schedule, the building will be turned over to the library by the contractor on July 15.
. --Alice-Jo Carlson
ROSEVILLE
The Library Board approved the design development phase attheir meeting
on April 28. This paves the way for the development of contract documents by the
archITect, Buetow and Associates. These documents must again be approved by
the Library Board, and then the advertisement for bids will go out in July.
Assistant County Attorney, Gary Davis, is working on an agreement for the
houses purchased by the library system to the north of the library site so that they can
be moved in early June. Construction is scheduled to begin in late August.
--Alice-Jo Canson
SHOREVIEW
The shelving has arrived and is in place and shelving of the 35,00 volumes of
the Shoreview Library collection will begin as early as next week. The parking lot is
being readied for its second coat of asphalt, and the irrigation system will soon be
in place. As soon as the irrigation system is finished, landscapers will return and
. complete what the Halloween Blizzard interrupted last October-laying of sod. Soon
the library will be surrounded by an oasis of green, instead of the brown that now
encircles it.
Staff members for the Shoreview Library have been chosen: Ann Fitch,
currently the branch manager of the Roseville Library, will become the br(]nch
