. ...
SANDERS LANDSCAPE 365 East Kellogg Boulevard
WACKER ARCHITECTS Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101
WEHRMAN AND 612-221-0401
BERGLV PLANNERS Fax 612-297-6817
June 22, 1992
City of Arden Hills
Ms. Cathy lago
1450 West Highway 96 I
I
Arden Hills, Minnesota 55112
Cathy,
In the approval of Case #91-06, cpr Fence Variance, the City Council action directed me to work
with CPI in developing an acceptable landscaping plan in conjunction with the fence. While
;working with CPI in this regard, CPI indicated they would like our assistance in developing similar
landscape improvements on other parts of the site. I discussed this possibility with Gary. He felt
that as long as we were involved with site enhancements, there in fact may be advantages to our
working with them - like our work on the fence. RSP Architects, Inc. is being billed directly for
our time. Landscape improvements along the fence, at the County F corners of the site and at the
main building entrances off Hamline A venue are projects showing our involvement. I urge you to
visit the site and see the improvements.
CPI is now getting into the design stages of their next building. One of the architectural firms being
considered, has asked me if our firm can provide site planning and planting plan consultation during
the design stage. Our fees would be billed directly to the architect.
Ordinarily this type of pre-application consultation (in projects of this scope it could be extensive),
land owners are not billed for my time - either directly or through the City. So there would be
some financial advantage for the City. The other advantage would be that the City's interest would
be incorporated into the plans at an early design stage instead of requiring plan changes at the
normal City review and approval stageo
CPI has shown through the years that they are not satisfied with merely meeting minimum
I requirements and that they are very willing to cooperate with the City to achieve a showplace
campuso So cpr s interest in the proposed arrangement is not to find shortcuts or to influence the
City's decision - but rather to fully incorporate the City's concerns throughout the planning process
and to assure that they have top quality landscape architects involved.
I will be happy to discuss this further with you individually or with any of the Council Members.
Please call if you have any questions.
,
ACKER WEHRMAN BERGLY, INC.
John O. Bergly
