Buckley, Parks Director l~ <br /> SUBJECT: Parks & Recreation weekly Report <br /> F'IJ:MER RMER GARDENS: <br /> OVer 60 children and adults participated in the Fl= Fewer celebration on <br /> Saturday, May 15. Ramada Inn Sj:X)nsored the annual Pancake Breakfast for the <br /> volunteers this year. After breakfast, the volunteers went to assigned garden <br /> sites to plant. Seven (7) J:usinesses on County Road E have gardens this year: <br /> Ramada Inn, the former Hoigaards building, Norwest Bank, MSI, st. Paul Book & <br /> stationery, Arden HillsjShoreview Animal Hospital, and Arden Hills Amoco. <br /> Nine (9) gateway gardens were also planted: city Hall, Lexington & Highway <br /> 96, Lexington and County Road E (north and south side), County Road E and Old <br /> Highway 10, County Road E-2 and Old Highway 10, County Road F and Old Highway <br /> 10, County Road D and Johanna Blvd., and Cleveland and Glen Paul. <br />. There was a real wann feeling among the volunteers. They expressed a lot of <br /> fun, excitement and pride while planting. <br /> CUMMINGS TRAIL CDNSTRUcrION: <br /> Mark Graham and I will be meeting with the contractor on Tuesday, May 27 to <br /> walk the trail in preparation for starting construction. I will continue to <br /> keep in contact with the residents to answer any questions regarding trail <br /> construction. <br /> ELEMENrARY SCHOOL TRACK PROGRAM: <br /> The. four Park Departments have been Sj:X)ns=ing the School District #621 <br /> Elementary Track Program since the School District dropped the program due to <br /> bKlget cuts. The program had the final all-district meet on Wednesday, May 20 <br /> at Mounds View High School. This is always an exciting event for the <br /> children, with over 500 children participating in the track and field events. <br /> SPECIAL OLYMPICS: <br /> The special education students had their Regional Track meet on Friday, May 15 <br /> at 'Ibtino Grace High School in Fridley. OVer 400 athletes from the metro area <br /> participated in this event. This is a very worthwhile program. The athletes <br /> ~ience a lot of pride and achievement while participating. <br />.
