He raised the possibility of amending <br /> the ordinance to continue the 10% pl:e-tax obligation to the <br /> City, but slightly l:educe the extent to which licensees must <br /> contdbute to the tl:ade al:ea. <br /> Council agreed to l:evisit this issue administl:atively. <br /> HIRING OF TEMPORARY <br /> PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEE <br /> Public WOl:ks Supel:intendent Winkel had pl:ovided Council with <br /> a l:equest for authod ty to hil:e a full-time employee on .a <br /> temporary basis to assist the Public WOl:ks Cl:ew dUl:ing the <br /> summel: in light of the absence and uncel:tain l:etul:n of <br /> employee Fred Reed. Winkel's l:ecommendation was to extend <br /> employment to Philip Pel:l:on who has twenty yeal:S of sewel: and <br /> 'water experience. <br /> MOTION: Mahowald moved, seconded by Growe, to authol:ize the <br /> hil:ing of Philip Pel:ron as a full-time, temporary Public <br /> WOl:ks employee, effective June 1 thl:ough September' l, <br /> 1992 , at a l:ate of $11.35 pel: hour. Motion cal:ried . <br /> unanimously (5-0). <br /> j':XTENSION OF SICK LEAVE <br /> FOR, PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEE <br /> publi c WOl:ks Supel:intendent Winkel updated Council as to <br /> Public WOl:ks employee, Fl:ed Reed's condition. Winkel repol:ted <br /> that when he wrote his May 22, 1992 memo l:equesting Council <br /> considel: extending additional sick leave fOl: Reed he did so <br /> with the undel:standing that Reed would be l:etul:ning to work <br /> prior to the end of June; howevel:, since that memo was <br /> wl:itten, Winkel has met with Reed and questions Reed's ability <br /> to l:etUl:n to work and perfonn the duties of his job 111 the <br /> near future. <br /> Winkel stated that he has talked with Reed who undet-stands <br /> that sick leave cannot be extended indefinitely. Winkel <br /> explained since Reed's condition lS not related to a work <br /> injury, Reed is ineligible for wOl:kel:s' compensation benefits, <br /> but is collecting some disability from his insul:ance company, <br /> and has used his accrued '- . sick leave, and extended <br /> VaCal.lOn, <br /> sick leave to supplement his income. <br /> . <br />
