, - CONSULTING ENGINEERS Maier Stewart & Associates Inc. MEMORANDUM TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: MARK J. GRAHAM, P.E. M&- RE: ARDEN PLACE DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS DATE: AUGUST 13, 1992 FILE: 520-026-20 Plans and specifications have been prepared, as directed at the July 27, 1992, City Council meeting, for the above-referenced project. The proposed plan sheet is attached. This project will extend 12" storm sewer pipe within an existing utility easement on the McGuire property, then the pipe will turn easterly within the north right-of-way of Arden Place and outlet on the east side of Ridgewood Road. The only major tree that may be affected by this construction is a 30" tree located within City right-of-way just east of Dr. Lundgren's driveway at 1553 Arden Place. Every effort will be made to minimize damage to the root structure of this tree and the specifications draw the . contractor's attention to this matter. The construction area is limited due to the existing 8" water main along the north side of the roadway and the topography of the land in front of Dr. Lundgren's home. The tree is shown to be within City right-of-way. Once bids are received and the contractor is known, we will schedule a meeting for all affected residents along the project prior to beginning construction. It would be appropriate for the City Council to consider the attached resolution approving the plans and specifications and ordering the advertisement for bids. Bids will be available at the August 31, 1997, meeting. As of this writing, the public works department has not yet had the opportunity to try again to clean out the existing pipe, While it seems unlikely that the existing pipe can be sufficiently opened, the new project could be dropped even after bids are received. As mentioned in our cover memo regarding the cold in-place recycling assessment hearings, both Terry Maurer and I will be unavailable at the August 17th Council meeting, Another engineer from our office, Bill Westerberg, will be at the meeting, but he is not familiar with this project.
