AnN: City of Arden Hills City Counsel FROM: Finance Committee RE: Additional Licenses/Fees/Permits for Consideration l. FIRE INSPECTION FEE (see attached Bloomington Fire Marshal Permit) Purpose: Upon request by citizen or business, check is made of hazardous materials in home and business. The fee is to be paid by the holder of the hazardous materials. Benefit: Fire Department is aware of all materials that are potential hazards either before responding to a fire or just having an awareness of their presence. The recording of the permit will allow for more control over hazardous materials in residential and commercial areas. Fee Permit Cost: $25-$250 a year depending on size of the establishment and the amount of hazardous materials. Administration: Either handled by the Inspector or Fire Department. 2. SPECIAL EVENT FEE Purpose: This is a fee for tax paying and non-tax paying entities (ie, colleges, and churches) to cover the cost of traffic control or increased police activity for non-regularly scheduled events which are typically of a fund raising or revenue generating nature. Concerts, conventions, . plays, and special retail sales at hotela and motels are special events. Benefit: The Sheriff will be aware of large gathering in the city and if additional police of fire protection is necessary, additional fees will be charged depending of the services required on a per hour basis for the use of police or fire personnel. Fee: $50-$100 based on estimated attendance and the police or fire protection staff required. Administration: Arden Hills staff and Sheriff or Fire Department as required. 3. ALARM SYSTEM INSTALLATIOtf FEE Purpose: To establish a fee for all new installations of alarm systems at single family, multi-family, or commercial properties. Benefit: The city has on record all newly installed alarm systems, and they will be inspected. Fee Permit Cost: $50 for single family; $200 for multi-family dwelling or commercial property. Administration: City Inspector and Arden Hills staff. 4. BUILDING INSPECTION FEE Purpose: To institute annual inspection of multi-occupancy buildings or hous~~ such as dormitories, rooming houses, or apartments for safety and other ha~ard such as improper lighting, storage of hazardous materials, improper fire escapes, etc. Benefit: The city is protecting citizens and transients who are using these . facilities either during the school year or on a rental basis. Recommended Fee: $25 per building unit. Administ:ra tion: City Inspector and Arden Hills staff.
