------------------ -
Planning Commission Meeting Minutes - 9/01/93 6 .
Chair Winiecki informed Mr. Bailey that the intent of the
ordinance was not meant to be against any particular people but
these type of signs are not of high caliber as identified under
our ordinance. Mr. Bailey spoke clearly that the greatest
marketing tool available is a site sign and that because of the
size of the complex an additional site sign is needed for
marketing purposes.
Dave Carlson concluded that it is obvious that all the applicant
wants is an informational sign. He should consider getting rid
of the phone number and putting a sign on the corner or above the
garage that simply says the name of the apartment complex for
identification. Mr. Bailey agreed and stated he would comply
with the ordinance.
McGraw reminded the applicant that he must abide by the ordinance
and the Planning Commission's purpose is to find a way to help.
Mr. Bailey argued once again that he felt they have been
discriminated against, but will abide by the decision of the
Commission.
Scott Larson of 1178 Benton Way presented the Commission with a
letter and back up documents sent to him from the City staff, .
along with a petition requesting denial of the request from
Hunters Park, Ltd.
Mr. Larson stated that the sign does not fit in with the
environmental surroundings as required by the City and it is not
merely an identification sign, but serves as advertising.
Their housing association does not object to a sign being placed
on Harriet Avenue and believes it would serve their intent and
satisfy the residents. They do feel that Hunters Park Ltd. is in
violation of the city ordinance and have neglected to comply with
the City's request to remove the sign. They should be required
to abide by the ordinance.
McGraw moved to deny the request from Hunters Park Ltd. for an 18
ft. Real Estate Sign variance based on the fact that the sign is
in violation of the ordinance. steve Erickson seconded. Motion
passed unanimously. (6-0)
OTHER PLANNING COMMISSION ISSUES
It was requested that the planning packets received by the
commission members contain everything pertinent to the case. All
back up documents should be included and are considered important
for their review. .
