VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WE.I!;K. <br /> March 6-13, 1994 <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian human service organization, is celebrating <br /> its 98th year of service to the people of Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore certainly <br /> appropriate for us, the City of CITY NAME. to join in the observance of this milestone with the <br /> commemoration of March 6-13, 1994 as Volunteers of America Week; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution by providing these <br /> services to adults and the elderly: 6 homes for mentally disabled, mentally ill, chemically <br /> dependent and/or elderly adults; congregate dining for seniors at 45 sites in Anoka and <br /> Hennepin Counties; home delivered meals for persons 60 years of age and over; semi- <br /> independent living services and supported living services; 3 housing complexes for families, the <br /> handicapped, and the elderly; and 4 long-term health care facilities; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides these services for children and youth: 5 <br /> programs serving autistic, autistic-like, and/or development-ally disabled children and youth; a <br /> children's emergency shelter; in-home services; 52 foster treatment homes and correction group <br /> homes; a residential treatment center for emotiouaIly handicapped boys; a specialized behavioral <br /> program for boys with severe problems; short-term after care for youth with special needs; and, <br /> . WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides 2 correctional services: a pre-release and work- <br /> release correctional program serving men; and a women's jail, workhouse and work-release <br /> correctional program; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through its dedicated staff and volunteers and the many <br /> people who help support their work through fmancial contributions make a significant impact on <br /> . the lives of people in CITY NAME; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding in 1896 and urges others <br /> to join them in bridging the gap between human needs and the resources of the public and <br /> private sector; <br /> NOW, 'lJ:lliHE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, MAYORS FUlL NAME, Mayor of the City of CITY <br /> NAME, do hereby proclaim the week of March 6-13, 1994, as <br /> VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK IN CITY NAME <br /> AND, BE IT RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be transmitted to the Volunteers of <br /> America as evidence of our esteem. <br /> IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and cansed the Great Seal of the City <br /> of CITY NAME to be affIXed this _ day of in the year of our Lord one <br /> . thousand nine hundred and ninety four. <br /> MAYOR <br />
