- -------
,
STREETS AND TRAFFIC CONTROLS
The Comprehensive Plan classifies the streets and highways in and around
the study area as follows:
l. I-694: Principal arterial
2. Hamline/State Trunk Highway 51-125: Major arterial
3. Lexington and County Road E: Minor arterial
4. Grey Fox, Red Fox, Dunlap and Hamline Frontage Roads: Coll ectors
Traffic controls are as follows:
l. All street intersections with Lexington Avenue and County Road E e
either are signalized now or will be this year, except the east leg
of Connelly Street.
2. Stop signs at all other street intersections.
3. Left-turn lane (both directions) for entire length of Lexington
Avenue and County Road E.
4. Northwoods Drive is intended to extend to the west and south to Red
Fox Road--as proposed in Preliminary Plat.
5. Traffic volumes, both current and projected, are shown for the
primary street and highway systems.
IMPACT:
The area has excellent access from the metropolitan highway system and
from the more local system of arterials. The collector street pattern
is straight-forward and provides generally excellent access to private
properties. Direct access from private properties to Lexington Avenue
will present increasing problems with increasing traffic. Ramsey County
feels it can handle all the traffic we can generate within the area by
making capacity improvements to Lexington Avenue. The County's concern i
is for limiting ac ces s to private properties and therefore limiting
turning movements and conflict points. .
-18-
