Attachment A <br />' t <br />-AL� HILLS <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />PROCLAMATION <br />To recognize National Police Week 2024 <br />and to honor the service and sacrifice <br />of those law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty <br />while protecting our communities and safeguarding our democracy <br />WHEREAS, In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers <br />Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week; and <br />WHEREAS, National Police Week was established by a joint resolution of the United <br />States Congress in 1962; and <br />WHEREAS, There are approximately 800,000 law enforcement officers serving in <br />communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the Ramsey County <br />Sheriff's Office; and <br />WHEREAS, Everyday law enforcement officers are the first to be on the scene to help <br />those in need and are dedicated to serving the community; and <br />WHEREAS, National Police Week pays special recognition to law enforcement officers <br />who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others; and <br />WHEREAS, Over 43,000 assaults against law enforcement officers are reported each <br />year, resulting in approximately 15,000 injuries, and assaults against officers in Minnesota have <br />increased by over 120% in the last two years; and <br />WHEREAS, Since the first recorded death in 1786, over 23,000 law enforcement <br />officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and been killed in the line of duty, <br />including members of the Ramsey County Sheriff s Office; and <br />WHEREAS, The names of these dedicated public servants are engraved on the walls of <br />the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and <br />WHEREAS, In 2023, 136 officers were killed nationwide in the line of duty and their <br />names will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring; and <br />
