Anderson Subject: Arden Hills Planning Commission Date 6/22/94 To Whom It May Concern: This letter is an appication for appointment to the Arden Hills Planning Commission. As a resident of Arden Hills and Ramsey County for 8 years, I have gained an interest in and have been involved in a number of areas which the Planning Commission deals with on an ongoing basis, Raised on a North Dakota farm where I was involved (hands on) with building silos, air tight grain bins, as well as foundation of buildings, feed bunks, storage buildings,etc. I developed an interest in construction, After graduating from high school, I attended North Dakota State College of Science in Architectural Drafting, learning more about construction terminology, procedures and materials, A few years later I also earned an AAS degree in Garden Center and Nursery Management majoring in Landscape Design. During that time I had a number of technical classes . including Woody Plant Materials classes where we studied trees and shrubs in landscaping as well as forestry situations. Plantings for screening, erosion control, commercial landscape uses, water and sewer root invasion, as well as effects on plants by poor landscape planning and location were all parts of our studies, I started my own landscape consulting service in Fargo, North Dakota before we moved here. Since moving here I have continued my horticultural involvement by working for Bachman's for 2 seasons as a part-time supervisor, working as a Ramsey County Master Gardener, and teaching a variety of community education classes in horticulture, Also, while in Fargo I was Executive Secretary to the General Manager and owner of Lavelle Lumber Company, a wholesale lumber and building products sales company. As part of my responsibilities, I assisted Ev Bjerke, the Sales Manager, to develop training programs for new employees to learn about all the products we sold...learning even more about building materials in the process. I am interested in joining the Planning Commission because of an interest in the community and the quality of life here. I am a voracious reader with a strong inclination towards common sense and logic. If I don't understand something, I find out ,..if not at the library, then at the book stores. . "Because we've always done it that way" or "I guess that's the only way to do it" are not phrases I accept passively,..and I ask lots of questions when
