NYFS meets with youth and their parents to assess the situation .nd to decide upon an <br /> appropriale consequence. Cost per hour is $40.00. Each Assessment lakes one hour. <br /> Employment Services: There are two areas in which youth may participate in this program. Youth register for home chore jobs <br /> and pre--employmcnt skilllraining through the Youth Employment Program. Area residents and senior citizens place job requests through the <br /> Residential Chore or the Senior Citizen Chore Project. Youth rMY al80 be employed in NYFS' Youth Run Business, lite Community Clothing <br /> Connection. Here, youllt receive ha.nds-on training in lll8rk.eting, cUslOmer service, retail display and merchandising, inventory control, <br /> bookkeeping and computer and eash register use. Cost per hour for employment services is about $40.00. Each youth participant in the chore <br /> program receives an average of3 hours of service, while youth participants in the youth nm business receive 45 hours of service. <br /> Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Consists of two main programs: Teeo Health Ceoter: Through the Teen Health Center. <br /> reproductive healllt needs, both preventive and primary, of uninsured, underinsured and low income youth from our area between lite ages of <br /> 12.23. are met. Each visit lasts approximately 1.5 hours. The average charge per visit was $80. Health Educatioa Services: In 1993, 103 hours <br /> of prescotBtions or groups were provided to over 1,030 students (statistical information for this program is not kept by city). <br /> Youth Service Learning: In partnership with Mounds View District #621 Community Education, NYFS connects elementary, <br /> middle and high school students to community agencies/organizalions in need of volunteers. Cosl per hour is about $40.00. Each participant <br /> receives an average of 4.5 hours. of service. <br /> Other programs and services offered through NYFS (statistics not kept by city): <br /> Shoreview Community Center Youth Outreach: NYFS and the City ofShn.-cview provide a full,time youth Outreach <br /> & Community Service Advisor at the Shoreview Community: Center. By offering effective prevention and intervention programs, at.risk. and <br /> other youth are provided a healthy, positive experience at the benter. An event for teens called FRIDAYS has also been established. On certain <br /> Fridays, lite Center closes early and youth have the facilities all to themselves. Over 1,500 youlh attended FRIDAYS. in 1993. . <br /> .; <br /> Reflect Respect: As a result of a growing awareness that our communities are changing in populations. and a desire to respond to these <br /> changes. NYFS and a coalition of community members began lite Reflect Respect Project. It's mission is to develop a community in which <br /> all people are trealed with respect, acceptance and sensitivity, regardless of race, gender, economic status, physical attributes, disability and <br /> religion. <br /> Haunted House: Students from NYFS' Youth Service Learning Project, the New Brighton RotBry and lite New Brighton Chamber <br /> of Commerce developed the Second Annual NYFS Haunted House. A total of 50 volunteer students from Mounds View and Irondale High <br /> Schools ninth grade civic classes planned, built and acted in the Haunted House. ?vcr 800 people attended the event. <br /> Family Support Services - Home Based Family Program: This is a new program that hegan planning in 1993 <br /> and will begin offering services in Spring of 1994. The goal of this program is to promote family unifacation and prevent out of home <br /> placement. It will offer intensive home based treatmenL In addition to therapy, this program will be able to creatively meet current concerns <br /> of the family including parenting and behavior issues, academic concerns and lime management problems. <br /> Speakers Bureau: NYPS' staff of skilled clinicians, youllt workers and educaton mate presentations to area churches, civic groups <br /> and Pf As on topics focusing 00 parenting, family life, youth development and life enrichment. A speakers Bureau topic booklet and application <br /> fonn ia available upon request. Each year, NYFS staff complete between 45~ Speakers Bureau requests. <br /> . <br />
