City staff, including myself, Dan Winkel and Cindy Severtson, subsequently have met with Mr. Husnik to discuss his available options. On July 1, a meeting was held with Mr, Husnik and the park manager, Tcxn Holrrquist. At this meeting, staff rracle several suggestions as to arrenities which could l:e considered as part of a trade-off f= the pool closure. These am:nities included sand volleyball, expanded . basketball court, swings, slides, BBQ pits, horseshoes, shuffleboard, picnic area, new tot lot, etc. Staff informed Mr. Husnik that if he desired. to close the pool he would need to develop a pl:'Op:)Sal for consideration by the City OJuncil at their July 11 meeting. Due to the death of Mr. Husnik' s partner, a formal proposal was not presented to City staff. The last proposal, which was discussed over the phone with Mr. Holnquist, included the following: 1. Add 2 new basketball h=ps. 2. Relrove existing tennis court. 3. Const=t 2 new sand volleyball courts. 4. Irrprcwe drainage swale fran pond to outlet pipe. 5. Landscape existing pool area. 6. City continue to rraintain the basketball and volleyball courts. With Ms. Severtson on vacation this past week, it was difficult to assess the proposal. However, staff believes the Cbuncil should l:e conce:med that these replacement am:nities nay not be of the type which would l:e available for use by all age groups.
