.
. CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMJRANDOM
DATE: July 22, 1994
TO: Dorothy Person, City Administrator
l'RCM: Dan Winkel, Public I'k>rks Superintendent A vJ.
SUBJECT : RecOIllle!Ilded changes on the Arden Hills Traffic Sign
Policy .
As directed by Council, I requested City Attorney JeTI)' Filla to
review the proposed Traffic Sign Policy. In his written response, Mr.
Filla states that the installation of a sign must be approved by the
City Council (Minnesota Statutes 169.06, SUbd.3 and 412.221, Sulxl.. 6,
7, and 18) .
Enclosed is an arrended version of the Arden Hills Traffic Sign Policy
that includes the City Council m3king the final decision as to where
. the traffic sign should be installed.
I also suggest to change the appeal process slightly. It is in my
opinion that if there should J::e an appeal, it should go directly to
the Council. It would be difficult for the Public Works Safety
Corrmittee to offer an opinion when Council had previously trade a
decision. The Public Works/Safety Ccmnittee would J::e available to
help staff and Council gather additional info:rmation for the appeal
review process.
r:w:to
.
