-
Perry Park:
The Situation Today
There are five key problems with Perry Park.
I) Overlapping outfields: The present location of the softball and little league
fields overlap causing games to interfere with one another. This poses a serious safety risk.
2) Inadequate parking: The parking is inadequate to accommodate the park's
level of use. There are currently 82 parking spaces--but few are marked. People park
haphazardly along the narrow winding drive way which intersects the park.
3) Too few ballfields: Arden Hil!s does not have enough ballfields to meet the
growing need. Perry Park, the most used park for softball and little league, has no lighted
ballfields to support late season and night games. The lighted fields will also provide more
flexibility in scheduling and making up rainouts.
. 4) Erosion: Erosion is taking its tol! on the east side of the park. Concerns have
been raised about a pipeline. The Park loses 1-2 feet ofland annually as soil gets washed
over the edge of a drop off. An-ever shrinking park is not the only problem. The drop off
itself is along the third base line of one of the fields. Players attempting to catch foul balls
risk the drop off.. and serious injury
5) ADA inaccessibility: The play area and two of the current fields are not
wheel-chair accessible. A four-foot incline separates the parking lot from the fields.
Further, the play area is set in a secluded area well away from the parking lot and ball
fields.
-
