----~--
2 .
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Elene Loecher, 1360 Arden View Drive, expressed concerns about the valuation of her home
compared with her neighbors. Mr, Post agreed to explain the County petitioning process with
Ms, Loecher after the meeting.
Donald Grant, 1832 Grant Road, inquired as to the cost effectiveness of the Ramsey County
Sheriff contract. Councilmember Malone responded by stating that inquiries with neighboring
communities that have police departments about providing coverage to Arden Hills have not
been as cost competitive as the Sheriffs contract. Mayor Probst added that the City has had an
excellent crime record as a safe place to live and work and that this factor has also contributed to
the lower per capita costs. Probst also pointed out the City is able to leverage the assets of the
Sheriffs Department for response activity without having to provide these assets when not
needed.
Thomas Mulcahy, 3530 Siems Court, expressed concern at the percentage increase rate in the
levy for the last two years and inquired as to when the increases would level off. Mayor Probst
explained the commitment to the pavement management program as being one of the factors for
the recent increases. Councilmember Malone added that another factor is that tax collections .
have been reduced because of the level of business tax petitioning with the result being that the
City has not been able to collect as high a percentage of the amount levied.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
MOTION: Malone moved and Aplikowski seconded a motion to cancel the Truth-In-
Taxation continuation hearing previously scheduled tor December 7, 1994, The
motion carried unanimously (5-0).
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION: Malone moved and Aplikowski seconded a motion to adjourn the Truth-In-
Taxation hearing at 8:34PM.
Dennis Probst, Mayor Terrance R. Post,
Acting City Administrator
.
--- -----
