CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
.
MEl'IDRANOOM
DATE : December 23, 1994
-
TO: Mayor & Council
FRCM: Dan winkel, Public Works Superintendent \:NJ
SUBJECI' : Replacement of Booster Staticn and Fernwcod Avecue Water
Tower Control Panels.
The electrical control panels at the l:xxJster station and Fe:rm.o:d
Avenue water tower are in need of replacement due to the age and the
inability to get parts for roth. Both panels have teen in place since
the late 1960's.
The 1994 Capital Equipment budget has $15,000 allocated for the
replacement of these panels. Additional electrical and TlOtor
replacement work will be budgeted for in 1996.
. Staff wrote specifications and solicited quotations for this project.
The specifications were written so that a non-proprietary system could
be installed. A benefit of a non-proprietary system is that
replacement equipment is available from multiple vendors, rather than
sourced from a single rranufacturer. TIle arrrent panels are roth
proprietary systems that require spare parts from one manufacturer.
Some of the parts are OCM obsolete and cannot be replaced.
Quotations were received from Auto Con Industries, and Connelly
Industrial Electronics. Aid Electric was mailed the specifications but
did not bid on the project. The quotations are as follaws:
Connelly Indlqtrial Electronics - Replacement of l:xxJster station and
Femw::x::d Avenue water tower controls, $13, 856 . 82 .
AutoCon Inr111qtries - Replacement of l:xxJster station, Fe:rm.o:d Avenue
water tower controls, and also work at the Roseville Booster Station,
$16,357.00.
The work at the Roseville Booster Station does not have to be
ccmpleted nON. The intent is to do the work at the Roseville site,
. replace existing lON efficiency TlOtors, and install a "soft-start"
- ------
