II CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMJRl\NDllM
DATE: December 23, 1994
-
TO: Mayor & Co1=il
FRa.!: Dan Winkel, Public Works Superintendent \hJ
SUB.:JECT : Replacement of Booster Station and Fe%IllIolOOCl Avenue Water
Tower Control Panels.
The electrical =trol panels at the b:oster station and Fernwood
Avenue water tower are in need of replacement due to the age and the
inability to get parts for J::oth. Both panels have been in place since
the late 1960's.
The 1994 Capital Equiprent budget has $15,000 allocated for the
replacement of these panels. Additional electrical and rrotor
replacement MJrk will be budgeted f= in 1996.
~ Staff wrote specifications and solicited quotations for this project.
The specifications were written so that a non-proprietary system could
be installed. A benefit of a non-proprietary system is that
replacement equiprent is available fran multiple vendors, rather than
sourced from a single manufacturer. The ==t panels are J::oth
proprietary systems that require spare parts from one manufacturer.
Sc:me of the parts are TJfJoN obsolete and cannot I::e replaced.
Quotations were received fran Auto Con Industries, and Connelly
Industrial Electronics. Aid Electric was mailed the specifications but
did not bid on the project. The quotations are as follows:
Connelly Inrnlstrial Electronics - Replacement of booster station and
Fernwood Avenue water tower controls, $13,856.82.
AutoCon Innll"tries - Replacerrent of b:oster station, Fernwood Avenue
water tower =ntrols, and also MJrk at the Roseville B=ster Station,
$16,357.00.
The MJrk at the Roseville B=ster Station does not have to be
completed TJfJoN. The intent is to do the 1I.Ork at the Rcseville site,
. replace existing low efficiency rrotors, and install a "soft-start"
