<br /> League of Minnesota Cities - <br /> Policy Development Process <br /> The League's policy development process has taken place over the past five months. The <br /> process began with a member survey of priority issues facing city officials. The process will <br /> not end with the Policy Adoption Conference. The committees will schedule additional - <br /> meetings during the upcoming legislative session to discuss additional issues, develop <br /> alternative solutions, and to discuss strategies to implement the League's policies. <br /> Listed below is a brief chronology of the major events in the policy development process. At - <br /> each step, members have the opportunity to participate in the development process. - <br /> Late May- The League solicits members for ideas and problems. A survey at the Annual - <br /> Early June Conference allows members to formally suggest topics. <br /> I <br /> June The League President accepts applications for committees and appoints policy <br /> committee members. - <br /> The policy cOmmittees are: Improving Community Life - , <br /> Improving Service Delivery I <br /> Improving Local Economies <br /> Improving Fiscal Futures <br /> July Committees meet to discuss issues raised in member survey. Committees may ,. <br /> also form task forces to more thoroughly study specific issues. Task forces can <br /> include noncity members with a knowledge of the focus issue. , <br /> I <br /> August Committees and task forces meet to discuss issues and problems, accept <br /> through testimony, and develop policy statements. I <br /> September <br /> October Legislative Committee meets to finalize policies. The Legislative Committee is . <br /> comprised of the League's Board of Directors and the chairs of the four League <br /> policy committees. <br /> November Policy Adoption Conference. Members have the opportunity to discuss the . <br /> draft policies, propose changes, and suggest additional policies for membership <br /> consideration. I <br /> December The Board adopts the Legislative Action Plan, based on input from the Policy <br /> Adoption Conference. . <br /> January Legislative Session. During the session, the policy committees and task forces <br /> through will continue to meet on issues and strategies.
