The impact of the proposed project on migrating I wildlife has not been investigated. Rare and endangered species (Blanding's turtles) are known to live in Arden Hills. It is known that turtles migrate into the site targeted by this project as they are frequently sighted on Old Hwy 10 crossing from Valentine Lake into the open space. A . multi-season biodiversity inventory must be performed on this open space. The subject property is also a key component of the wildlife migration corridor extending I west from Rice Creek. me parcel links Valentine Lake with Ramsey County Open Space. Development here has the potential for destroying food, shelter and migratory routes for wetland and other wildlife. Leveling of the only existing knoll in this region destroys high ground critical to wetland wildlife habilat This area provides nesting, mating and escape areas for waterfowl, . furbearers, and upland game. The environmental effects associated with loss of wildlife habitat must be studied. . Finally, as outlined above, the soils in this area are excessively wet and subject to frost action. Arden Hills' consnlting engineers have asserted that area waters can be controlled; however, the city's experience with run-off and flooding, e.g., at the townhouses north of 1-694 on Old Hwy 10 as well as in Valentine Park have shown otherwise. .
