(Matt Fulton)
I . The report should consider how the site will connect to neighboring communities
via roads. bus routes, infra$tructure, etc. (Marsha Soucheray)
. Should the report include a list of uses that the committee does not want to see at
I the site (e.g. casino's) (Julie Trude)
Molly Grove requested committee input on the stralegy for future meetings. " .' " . "'. .
II NEW BUSINESS
lie OPERABLE UNIT 21CAMU
Mike Fix presented background information on the cleanup efforts at the site. He also
discussed th'e potential impact of national government funding cuts on the cleanup
I' process. In light of less funding, the feasibility studies on the cleanup of,the TCAAP site
have been broadened to include more cost-effective solutions, while still considering legal
and environmental requJeements. Fix cautioned that there is not written policy aD thill yet,
Ii but that there have already been significant b~dget cuts to the TCAAP site bud let. Wbile
items cut may not impact the cleanup too badly this fiscal year, the funding picture is
I unclear at this point as to the future. Denny Probst ssked if the degree of clean-up will
be revisited since there is less funding (i.e. perhaps not clean ilie entire sHe to the
cleanest, "residential. level). Mike Fix stated that if the commiuee recommends land-use
I ideas that impact the amount of clean-up, tbe process may move quicker (while once
again cautioning tbat the cleanup bas to achieve standards to make sure that health and
environmental safety is achieved). A discussion followed on the TCAAP site cleanup
11 efforts as they fit into national priorities (e.g. oilier sites that may currently be risking the
bealth and safety of citi:l:ens, as compared to the TCAAP site, where those types of
present risks have already been remediated). Mike Fix stated tbat, under certain
Ii circumstances, it could become cheaper for the Department of Defense to continue to
own the property and maintain security and fence lines, rather than to cleanup and
dispense of the property.
I,
11_
I~ ~- _.,,--
