The Parks & Recreation Committee held two (2) meetings with area
residents to discuss the project. Their concerns and suggestions were considered & incorporated I
into the plan. The redevelopment would result in three (3) 300 feet of softball fields and one (1)
200 feet Little League baseball field. The residents main concern was with enforcement of the
park. The parking lot lights and park design will enhance the safety of the park and help the I
Ramsey County Sheriff Deputies to patrol & enforce the area. There has been an increased level
of unwanted activity in the park reported by the Sheriff & the residents. The Ramsey County
Sheriff's Department is supportive of the park design and anticipates that it will help to decrease -I
vandalism and other unwanted activities that occur in the park.
I am recommending the use of $17,000 from the Storm Water Management Fund and $179,700 I
from the Park Fund to be used for this project. Fundraising efforts will continue in hopes of
raising money for the Americans with Disabilities Act accessible playground structure. If
additional funding can't be obtained, it is my hope that $20)00 could be requested to be spent I
from the Park Fund at that time. This would bring the total commitment from the Park Fund to
$200,000.
