.....
~
~-
--.- RECOMMENDATION PLAN
. CROSS-SECTION -
~: ."....
The recommended cross, section is different for different segments of the corridor. However, the
- recommended cross-section does have the following elements in common.
-
T ',"'.
. Four through traffic lanes (2 in each direction)
-
. 8 foot shoulders
.r . Regional Trail Located on the South Side of the Highway
.. . Raised Median with the possible exception between Rice and McMenemy
. Left-turn Lanes at Full Access Intersections
I . Right -turn Lanes at all city streets and high traffic generators
.r A wide median as shown in Figure is recommended in the segment of Highway 96 between Trunk
Highway 10 and Lexington. This closely matches the roadway width that is currently in place and
provides room for double left 'turn lanes if needed. An 18 foot median is recommended throughout
J: the rest of the corridor-with the possible exception of the segment between Rice and McMenemy,
Because there willoe. noaecess provided in this segmen there is no need to provide separate turn
7. lanes and thef/ifore a median is not needed. However, a landscaped median would help to reduce
the visual impact of the roadway ifthere is adequate right-of-way.
= ACCESS SPACING
I :-"...
A preliminary access plan was developed based on the access spacing criteria discussed earlier in
-
I this report. The preliminary access plan was developed to provide the safest operating conditions
on Highway 96 while maintaining reasonable access to the adjacent land uses. Alternatives to the
proposed access plan will be considered based on the public input. Under the proposed access plan
- right-in, right-out access would be maintained at almost all of the existing access points in the
:c corridor. Major intersections where traffic signals may be warranted are the following:
-
..[ . Old Highway 8
. 1-35W Ramps
- . Trunk Highway 10
:r: . Snelling Avenue (If it is an access to redeveloped TCAPP property
. Hamline A venue (If it is an access to redeveloped TCAPP property)
. Lexington Avenue
..[ . Victoria Street
. Snail Lake Boulevard
. Hodgson Road
~:[ . Ri ce Street
. McMenemy Street
~ . Oreenhaven
. Centerville Road
~ 72
-
--. r
_i,T'....-'-----"-''' ,,.,.,._~~.,__,_.
