<br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETOO 166 <br />COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF ARDEN HILIS <br />Wednesday - October 27, 1954 <br />-- <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was called to oroer at 8:00 P.M. by Mayor Ashbach. <br /> <br />Present - Mack, Ashbach, Ludlow <br />. .Absent - DeLange, McClung <br /> <br />The following resolution was adopted: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State Highw<:y Department has planned a highway running through <br />the Northern part of Ramsey County, the plans for which call for the building of said . <br />road across Island Lake in said Ramsey County; that early in 1954 the County of Ramsey <br />purchased the real estate adjoining Tsland LaKe, said purchase having been made by saia <br />County for the purpose of furniming recreational facilities for resJ.dents of Ramsey <br />County, and particularly those residing outside of the City of St. Paul; The ViD.age <br />Council of Arden Hills being fully aware of the facts and advised in the prmises, are <br />concerned about the detrimentaJ. results that might obtain should the road be built <br />according to the present plan of the State Highway DepartmEnt. <br /> <br /> <br />NOW Tr:EliEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that it is the request of the Village Council <br />of Arden Hills that the construction of said road according to the present plan of <br />the State Highway Department is not in the best interests of the residents of this <br />Village or of the other residents of Ramsey Count;y, and that the -.sme muld have an <br />adverse effect upon the use of Island Lake for recreationaJ. purposes; that the State <br />Highway Department is hereby requested to change the location of saidroad so that <br />no part thereof will interfere with said Island Lake; that the Clerk of the Village <br />of Arden Hills is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable <br />M. J .Hoffman, ColllIllissioner of Highways of the State of Minnesota, forthwith. <br /> <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that i1> is the request of the meIT'bers of the Village <br />Council of Arden Hills that the property right and interest of the County in Island <br />Lake for recreational purposes would be greatly decreased in value if the highway above <br />referred to is built accoroing to the proposed plan, and that the interest of taxpayers <br />of Ramsey County would suffer by reason thereof, that the preponderance of detriment . <br />would outweigh the interest to be accomplished by the building of said road in the <br />location intended; and that the safety of the people visiting said recreational area <br />would be endangered by the erection of said highway through said recreational area. <br />Therefore, tile Board of County Commissioners of Ramsey County, Minne sot a, is hereby <br />requ'3sted to bring an action as a property owner on behalf of the taxpayers of Ramsey <br />County and on its own behalf to test the right of the State Department of Highways to <br />proceed with the construction of said highway as presently laid out; that the Village <br />Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Eugen~ . <br />Monick, County Auditor of Ramsey County and Secretary of the Board of County CommJ.sS1oners <br />~with the request that it be submitted to thenext regular meeting of said Board of County <br />~ommissioners for immediate action. <br /> <br /> <br />~.~...~~ <br />I ' cS'- <br />Ro er .
