CONSENT ITEM - 8C <br />ZEEN HILLS <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: August 26, 2024 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />FROM: Jessica Jagoe, Interim City Administrator <br />SUBJECT: Draft Ordinance Amendment 2024-008 — Chapter 2, Section 210, Subsection 210.02, <br />Salaries (related to Mayor and Councilmember Salaries) <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br />S S S <br />Council Should Consider <br />Motions to approve, table, or deny the following: <br />Ordinance 2024-008 Amending Chapter 2, Section 210, Subsection 210.02 Regarding <br />Salaries for the Mayor and City Councilmembers. <br />Background and Discussion <br />At the July 22, 2024, work session, Staff provided comparison data for neighboring cities regarding <br />Mayor and Councilmember salaries. The City Council discussed the data presented and whether or <br />not it would want to adjust its salary. <br />Per City Code, the salary of the Mayor and Councilmembers shall be reviewed every six years or <br />earlier as determined by the City Council. Per State Statute, a Council can vote to increase its salary <br />at any time, but the adjustment cannot take effect until subsequent to the next election. <br />Council salaries were last amended via adoption of Ordinance 2017-012, with the adjustment taking <br />effect following the 2018 General Election, and so on January 1, 2019. <br />Currently, and if approved, a salary adjustment would be effective subsequent to the November 5, <br />2024 General Election, and so on January 1, 2025. <br />Pagel of 2 <br />
