NEW BUSINESS - 5C
MEN HILLS
.
MEMORANDUM
DATE: September 17, 2024
TO: Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee
FROM: Jill Anderson
SUBJECT: Student Feedback
Background,
PTRC had two youth applicants/members over the last year. Feedback was requested regarding
the experience and the following was provided:
PTRC - Was a very good learning experience
is Didn't feel like they contributed much, would recommend getting involved outside
of committee meetings and joining a subgroup learned about how the city runs and
how individuals can get involved
• Would recommend providing more information at onboarding about the city
structure and council roles
• Felt increasing meeting times would help and felt things moved very slowly (related
in part to the council reviewing ptrc recommendations and the new governance
structure with projects just starting in 2024)
PTRC - Enjoyed learning more about the city and how it operates, processes for getting
things done.
• W)uirecommend PTRC improves c)MMun0cations within itself
• Was challenging to find their place, some clickiness. Some of this was attributed
to the one year term length as well as unconscious biases related to age.
• Felt onboarding was good, provided enough info to exist in the space, the other
information needed had tIIIIIII ilililll)e observed and learned through part icipation.
• Would tell future members to find your own space, you may not be invited. I qe
committee members are welcoming, you just need to assert yourself.
All would be interested in joining a commi ee commission oar in the future wherever
they choose to make their homes.
Action Requested:
Discuss whether we want to adjust our process based on the feedback from students.
Page1ofl
