.

.

.

ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - FEBRUARY 28 2000
,

]1

Mayor Probst stated hc would rather move the date back and take advantage of the opportunity to
make a formal announcement but he does not want to delay the groundbreaking too long because
it then conflicts with vacation schedules.

Councilmember Larson asked about looking at the National Guard facility for the Town Hall
meeting since they could see the groundbreaking site from that building.

Councilmcmber Grant stated he is not sure he will be available on April 29th.

Councilmember Aplikowski stated her preference to hold the Town Hall mceting on April 1st
along with a symbolic groundbreaking with whomever is available and to then hold a more
formal ground breaking later when dignitaries can be scheduled to attend.

Councilmember Grant noted the Town Hall meeting provides an opportunity to publicize the
ground breaking event if it is held later plus the publications can be used to advertise the date.

Councilmember Aplikowski noted that, perhaps, a different crowd would attend the Town Hall
meeting since it is being held in April instead of January.

Councilmember Larson agreed that it might be better to use the Town Hall meeting to make the
announcement of the groundbreaking ceremony and the datc it will be held.

Council member Aplikowski stated her support for that suggestion and noted that a potluck lunch
could be held after the groundbreaking ceremony for former Mayors and Councilmembers.

Consensus was reached that the Town Hall meeting will be scheduled for April I, 2000, at the
Bethel College Great Hall with direction to staff to send out a mailing and continue to look at
dates for a groundbreaking ceremony and when people can attend. Those to bc invited will
include Congressman Vento, Senator Grams, Army representatives, former Mayors and
Councilmembers. The Council will make a decision on the ground breaking date at the March
13,2000, Council meeting.

Mayor Probst stated he is pleased with the letter regarding staff assistance on thc watermain
break. He asked Mr. Lynch to send his complimcnts to Dwayne Stafford and his staff.

Mayor Probst notcd the upcoming consideration by the Planning Commission on Plal111ing Case
#00-14 involving a front yard variance which staffrecommends for approval. He noted that this
variance, if approved, would put the deck very close to the front yard right-of-way. Mayor
Probst stated he is not sure why that is the requested location but the Lake Johal111a Boulevard
right-of~way may be an issue in the future if it needs to be rcbuilt so hc wants to be sure that
issue is addressed at the Plarrning Commission meeting.

Mayor Probst advised that he will be vacationing the week of March 20, 2000, and not be in
attcndance at the worksession.
