<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - FEBRUARY 28, 2000 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant stated he talked with Mr. Lynch about Item 4C and wanted to note the <br />City may elect to put the existing backhoe up for sale in the auction. Mayor Probst asked if this <br />would change the action. Councilmember Grant stated be is unsure. <br /> <br />Mr. Lynch stated the primary request is the purcbase of the backhoe wbich is not contingent <br />upon the resale of tbe existing backhoe owned by the City. <br /> <br />The motion carried unanimously (5-0). <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Mayor Probst invited those present to come forward and address the Council on any items not <br />already on the agenda. There were no public comments. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED AND NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />A. Lake Johanna V olnntecr Fire Department, Introduction of Fire Chief Dave <br />Schreier, and Station No.1 Chief, Scott Brandt <br /> <br />Mr. Lyncb stated he had invited the Fire Chief and Station #1 Fire Chiefto attend the meeting <br />tonight. He noted the Fire Department has given the Council tbe 1999 year end report and asked <br />if the Council had any questions regarding tbat report. <br /> <br />Dave Schreier, Fire Chief, introduced himself as a six-year member of tbe Lake Johanna <br />Volunteer Fire Department and newly elected Chief, and thanked the Mayor and Council for <br />inviting them to the meeting tonight. He apologized for not requesting this introduction sooner <br />but explained that they have been busy catching up on things. He introduced Tim Boeblke as tbe <br />new Deputy Chief and Scott Brandt as tbe newly elected Station #1 Fire Chief. Fire Cbief <br />Schreier noted that Mr. Brandt has served on the Fire staff for approximately eleven years. Fire <br />Cbief Schreier stated he believed that communications have improved and it has been a pleasure <br />for the Fire Board to work with City staff. <br /> <br />Deputy Chief Boehlke stated he looks forward to working with the Fire Board and City of Arden <br />Hills, and bopes they can improve on communications. <br /> <br />Station # 1 Fire Chief Brandt stated that while he is new to this position, he believes he has two of <br />the best to teach him what to do. <br /> <br />Mayor Probst stated he talked with Fire Cbief Schreier about the 1999 year end report which <br />noted a significant change in response time. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Scbreier agreed that the response time appeared to have increased. He explained that <br />last year, the Fire Department initiated a routine response process. If a fire call is received but <br />tbere is no indication of smoke or fire or possibly not a true emergency, tbe Fire Department runs <br />routine instead ofwitb lights and siren. Fire Chief Schreier stated tbis routine response process <br />is being used in the concern of public safety, whicb means a slower response time. <br />
