Public Works Director / City Engineer <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Tower Security Improvements <br /> <br /> Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> $0 $161,700 (estimate) Water Utility Fund, UASI Grant <br /> <br />Council Should Consider <br /> <br />Council should provide direction on how to move forward with the proposed security <br />improvements with the City’s two towers. <br /> <br />Background <br />On August 28, 2023, the City Council approved Professional Services Agreement with TKDA <br />for the South Tower Improvements project. <br /> <br />On December 18, 2023, at a Work Session, City Council discussed desired security <br />improvements that were identified in the City’s Water Risk and Resiliency Assessment to the <br />South Tower with this project: <br /> <br />• Perimeter fencing <br />• Pivot gate with card reader <br />• Mechanical swing gate <br />• Person gate <br /> <br />Through discussion, City Council was also interested in pursuing security improvements to the <br />North Tower. Both sites were included in the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant <br />application which ultimately was not successful. Response from the UASI representatives there <br />was a decrease in the total allotment amount available for 2024. <br /> <br />On December 9th, 2024, City Staff separated the security improvements from the South Tower <br />Improvement Project in order to move forward with the repair work to be completed in 2025. <br /> <br /> <br />
