CONSENT ITEM - 8C <br />'!r, <br />-`iIVEN HILLS <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: May 12, 2025 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />FROM: Jessica Jagoe, City Administrator <br />SUBJECT: Hiring of Part -Time Senior Communications Coordinator <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br />$130,491 $37,967 General Fund <br />(Salary & Benefits, Full Year) (Salary Only, Half Year) <br />Council Should Consider <br />Motions to approve, table, or deny the following: <br />• The hiring of Laura Michlig to the position of part-time Senior Communications Coordinator <br />at Grade 13 Step 2 and at Year 0 on the PTO scale. <br />Discussion <br />The City Council authorized staff to post for a part-time communications position at their March 10, <br />2025 meeting. The City received a total of 41 applications and brought forward 13 candidates for <br />interviews (only 12 were actually interviewed due to one pulling out of the hiring process). <br />Following the interviews, it was determined Laura Michlig was the best candidate for the position, <br />and she has been extended a conditional offer letter that is pending Council approval. This position is <br />non-benefitted but will accrue PTO on a pro -rated basis based on the normal personnel policy <br />schedule and a holiday bank of hours will be provided. <br />Budget Impact <br />The hiring of this position will not negatively impact the budget as the position was originally <br />budgeted as a full-time benefited position; this change will actually reduce the anticipated <br />expenditures as benefits will not be offered to the part-time role and the total salary will come in <br />under the anticipated budget, too. The actual amount for the new hire is $67,271 for the full year <br />(at the maximum estimated 27 hours per week), $37,967 for half of the year.
