PUBLIC PRESENTATION- 5B <br />lt <br />EN HILLS <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: May 12, 2025 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />FROM: David Swearingen, Public Works Director/City Engineer <br />SUBJECT: Proclamation in Recognition of National Public Works Week <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br />N/A N/A N/A <br />Council Should Consider <br />• Adopting a Proclamation formally designating May 18-24, 2025 as National Public <br />Works Week in Arden Hills. <br />Background/Discussion <br />National Public Works Week is a celebration of thousands of men and women in North America <br />who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. <br />Instituted as a public education campaign by the American Public Works Association in 1960, <br />the weeklong celebration calls attention to the importance of public works. <br />This year's theme is "People, Purpose, Presence" for the National Public Works Week poster. <br />The poster highlights three cornerstone ideals that motivate public works professionals to serve <br />in their communities every day. Meeting the needs of people is what gives public works its <br />sense of purpose. Many times, publics works professionals will never meet those whose lives <br />have been impacted because when things are going right, no one knows that public works is <br />there. Yet without fanfare, public works is ever present, working in the background to advance <br />quality of life for all. <br />Our Arden Hills Public Works employees take great pride in their work.
