NEW BUSINESS – 5A <br /> <br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br /> <br />DATE: May 20, 2025 <br /> <br />TO: Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee <br /> <br />FROM: Matthew Johnson <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Tree Recommendation <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br />Public Works is in the process of updating the Public Works Design Manual which includes a list <br />of desired tree species for boulevards and open-space. <br /> <br />Currently the City Code 360.32 Placement of Trees in the Right-of-Way; Subd.2 Permitted <br />Varieties. Only the following types of trees shall be permitted under the provisions of this <br />Section: Hackberry; Norway, Sugar or Red Maple; Linden; and other species as approved by <br />the City. Under no circumstances shall cottonwood trees, non-disease resistant elm trees, or any <br />species of ash tree be planted in the City. <br /> <br />This item is to provide an opportunity for PTRC members to have input on tree species they <br />desire to have included in the Public Works Design Manual. This is not necessarily a <br />discussion item, so please come to the meeting prepared with a list of tree species if you <br />wish. Public Works will receive your input and include it in future discussions while <br />developing the formal list within the Public Works Design Manual. <br /> <br /> <br />Attachment <br /> <br />N/A <br /> <br />
