I Meeting of May to, 1976, as subm!'rted. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Proposed MT~ Bus Route No. 38 <br />Commissioner Bruce Nawrocki, Anthony Kouneski, Assistant General <br />Manager of ~arketing and Consumer Service, Robert Schreier, Transit <br />Analyst ~nd Ray Boss, Chairman of the Advisory Committee were present <br />q,;j; th.e~eetin~, raques ing approval o~~hI" <br />~''<J., Sd" W~ .. (/ <br />Council expressed c ncern re routing hich merely serVl3S small "chips" <br />of Arden Hil Is; doesn't really serve very many Arden Hilts citizens. <br /> <br />Schreier showed a map depicting: <br /> <br />Propos3d route 38 <br />3SF express route <br />4 present services <br />North Suburban Service - <br /> <br />pink <br />red <br />green <br />blue <br /> <br />It was stated that MTC is wi I ling to look at extension of services <br />when development occurs; it Unes become ':lverloaded, will add buso,; <br />to serve areas of need as it progresses I~to St. Paul/ Mpls.; reporTS <br />from the Citizens Committee indicate that areas with s:>read-out <br />populations are not served because rcutes don't "payoff". <br /> <br />In discussion of economics, MTC said that economics ar~ of concern; <br />are working with a stabilized fare; cost Jrojectlons are made before <br />a route is Insti'gated; ridership Expectation, service for senior <br />citizens, etc. are considered. Route is temporari I)' authorized for <br />one year and revic\Eld at 6 months, at whicl time It is determined <br />whether buses should be added, or number reduced or lina be pui led <br />atc; almost none are paying their own way at this time; Legislature <br />provides 7ax money on basis that base far3 be stabilized - maximum <br />fare is SOot. <br /> <br />Counci I asked about passenger/mile costs dhich MTC said would be too <br />costly to determine; passengers get on and off at various points along <br />a route; Operating Division has a budget and must maintain a balance; <br />some routes do not bring in fare:, of an adequate economic rlltur"n: lines <br />are set'vice oriented; cost/vehicle mile is $1.30; subsidy is 40ot/ <br />vehicle mi Ie. <br /> <br />Crichton suggested that some figures be developed tor CounCil's con- <br />sideration, and was invited to meet with the Operations Division to <br />obtain figures which are avai lable. <br /> <br />Woodbur'n expressed concern about asking Counci I to approve a route <br />which wi I I add to the MTC deficit. <br /> <br />Nawrocki stated that while routes have bujgeted deficits, the deficets <br />ere not as high as anticipated. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
