"vi.sion fat" Transit" is <br />a~ RTB program to provide efficient, convenient mass transit <br />~or the metro area by connecting area busing systems se~ving <br />t~e s~b~rbs (such as the Roseville Circulator which serves <br />Arden ~ills) to MTC "hubs" throughout the metro area. The <br />H;-iUbsu are planned t.o be located at. major shopping cent(:t"D <br />th)~Ol.l9h:Jl-lt thf: met ro area, wi t.h -:-.he f i. ~s t "htlb'l 't:"E'cent 1 y <br />activated at the Rosedale shopping center. <br /> <br />In response to Counci,l questions, the RTB representatives <br />explained the locaticns of the routes planned throughout <br />PO"rden Hi.ll s and the Hpa r1<~ and ride" lot.s avai 1 ab 1 e; <br />estimated ridership; financial subsidizing of the program; <br />method of levying for transpo~tation services: etc. <br /> <br />Councilmember Mahowald voiced concern regarding the <br /> <br />r.i + v f :'='_ <br />- ~ ".- J. - <br /> <br />cost to Gu~sidize t~e prograffi; he said the cost ~as quit€ <br />high considering the routes de not appear to provide maximum <br />accessibility to Arden Hills residents. He asked if the <br />Federal Transit Administration (FTA; or other agency(ies; <br />may provide support for the program. RTB representatives <br />said the FTA is mere interested in providing capital items <br />rather than operating funds for such a progr~m, <br /> <br />Councj.l consensus was that the proposed routes through Arden <br />Hill.s appear to "skimll the City, They preferred more <br />complete service in order to strongly support the program, <br />and offered suggestions for possible route changes. R~E <br />representatives welcomed Coun8ilfs input and stated that the <br />};n~r;)(")se of t_heir visit. },8 to learn the needs of communit.y. <br /> <br />Council agreed to add this as a discussion item on their <br />next worksession agenda and forward further input to the RTB <br />after that discussion.
