CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 20, 2000
TO: Joe Lynch, City Administrator
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Old Highway 10/Snelling Avenue Speed Study
Background
The City of Arden Hills has received numerous complaints over the past five years
relating to traffic speed on Old Highway 10/Snelling Avenue, between County Highway
96 and Minnesota State Highway 51. Several accidents have also occurred on that
roadway in the past few years.
The north portion of this roadway from County Highway 96 to County Road E is under
111 County jurisdiction and has speed limits of 40 &45 miles per hour. The southern
segment from County Road E to Minnesota State Highway 51 was turned over to City
jurisdiction in 1997 and has a speed limit of 40 miles per hour.
The Public Works Department, as well as the Ramsey County Sheriff's Deputies
patrolling that roadway, would like to see a uniform speed limit on the entire roadway
which is safe and proper for that roadway.
Recommendation
The Arden Hills Public Works Director recommends the City Council adopt Resolution
No. 00-23, requesting the Minnesota Department of Transportation to conduct a speed
study on Old Highway 10/Snelling Avenue to determine a uniform, safe and proper speed
limit for that roadway.
