CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: June 20, 2000 <br /> TO: Joe Lynch, City Administrator <br /> FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Old Highway 10/Snelling Avenue Speed Study <br /> Background <br /> The City of Arden Hills has received numerous complaints over the past five years <br /> relating to traffic speed on Old Highway 10/Snelling Avenue,between County Highway <br /> 96 and Minnesota State Highway 51. Several accidents have also occurred on that <br /> roadway in the past few years. <br /> The north portion of this roadway from County Highway 96 to County Road E is under <br /> 111 County jurisdiction and has speed limits of 40 &45 miles per hour. The southern <br /> segment from County Road E to Minnesota State Highway 51 was turned over to City <br /> jurisdiction in 1997 and has a speed limit of 40 miles per hour. <br /> The Public Works Department, as well as the Ramsey County Sheriff's Deputies <br /> patrolling that roadway, would like to see a uniform speed limit on the entire roadway <br /> which is safe and proper for that roadway. <br /> Recommendation <br /> The Arden Hills Public Works Director recommends the City Council adopt Resolution <br /> No. 00-23, requesting the Minnesota Department of Transportation to conduct a speed <br /> study on Old Highway 10/Snelling Avenue to determine a uniform, safe and proper speed <br /> limit for that roadway. <br />
