Minutes of Special Council Meeting
Village of Arden Hills
Tuesday, April 29, 1986 - 7:00 P.M.
Shoreview Village Hall

Call to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting was called to order at
7:20 p.m.

Roll Call
Present:
Absent:
Also Present:

Mayor Robert Woodburn, Councilmembers Nancy Hansen, Dale Hicks
Councilmembers Gary Peck, Thomas Sather
Shoreview - Mayor Richard Wedell, Councilmembers David McGraw,
Richard Sundberg, Thomas Wegleitner, Robert Weyandt
North Oaks - Mayor Ray Foley, Councilmember James Burak
Fire Chief Dan Winkel, Shoreview City Manager Gary Dickson,
Clerk Administrator Charlotte McNiesh

.

Purpose of MeetinR
Preliminary discussion of contract for fire protection.

Points Raised in Discussion
Present contract ends June 30, 1987.
Shoreview has a new 12 year contract with LJFD. Chief Winkel said budget
documents which are part of contract have not been completed as yet so
technically contract is not consummated.
Shoreview will step aside from the present tri-city agreement.
Present contract requires one year's notice if contract not renewed.
Shoreview will continue cost sharing under present contract provision until
June 3D, 1987.
Shoreview's contract with LJFD covers Station 3 and future Shoreview
stations which will provide level of protection desired by Shoreview.
Shoreview Council feels Station #1 is inadequate for its needs in south
area.
Mayor of North Oaks said he had not received a copy of Shoreview's
contract, felt further discussion on future contract should be delayed.
Chief Winkel said he felt it was advantageous for three cities to stay
together, rather than having separate contracts. Fire fighters and
equipment from two stations respond to major fires.
Essential to know needs of all cities, e.g. North Oaks may not need a
ladder truck but has need for pumpers.
It was suggested that councils meet monthly; North Oaks agreed to arrange
for next meeting.

Adiournment
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

@//AJb ~~

Charlotte McNiesh
Clerk Administrator

/~~~--'

Robert L.
