All aid and levy programs sunset for 1999 to force property tax refolID. <br /> I City, county, town and school levies are frozen. but schools will be paid increases by the <br /> state. 1he omy exception for the city and county levy will be for bOnded debt incurred <br /> before August 1, 1996 (state will pay for 1997 levy) and new growth. <br /> .. The freeze has a multi-year impact: <br /> . rlISt year. Freeze on levy and property values <br />I . Second year. 3% or less levy and 5% assessment increase limit <br /> . Third year: ?'1?n <br />I If the legislators fear the breaking dam -~ they may just extend the levy limit on and on and <br /> on! There is no guarantee for refolID. If salaries go up - employees must go down? <br /> CONTACT YOUR HOUSE MEMBERS ASAP! Ask them to oppose this or any other <br />I levy limitations. Ask them to talk to Tax conferees (to be appointed). Have as many decud <br /> of:/kiaIs within your cily as possible contact uu:h representative. The more contacts <br /> made, the greater our impact! <br />I Cities are not the culprits. School taxes have escalated, but schools are held harmless. <br /> Cities as a group are under price of government targets. Cities have an excellent IeCQrd - <br /> Truth in Taxation works.
