MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: August 5, 1996 <br />I TO: Mayor and City Council <br />I FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator@) <br /> SUBJECT: Workers Compensation Managed Care <br />I Background <br />I The City currently pays a premium of $ I 7,904 for workers compensation coverage. Over the <br /> past year, staff has investigated the concept of utilizing a Managed Care Plan for workers <br /> compensation cases. <br />I The purpose of a Managed Care plan is to exert greater management control over the treatment <br /> of compensable injuries. This typically results in reducing costs while increasing the quality of <br />I medical care. The initial savings to the City is a ten percent (10%) reduction ($1,790) in our <br /> workers compensation premium. There is no direct cost to the City for participating in this <br /> program. <br />.. CorVel Corporation has been endorsed by the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust to <br /> provide this service. After a review of several companies and discussions with our insurance <br />I agent, T.C. Field & Company, staff believes this action to be appropriate. <br />I Staff would recommend this service begin September 1,1996. <br /> Recommendation <br />I Staff recommends the Council authorize the execution of a two-year contract with CorVel <br /> Corporation to provide Managed Care to the City of Arden Hills. <br />I BF Isis <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />,. <br />I <br />
