<br /> I <br /> I CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> f' MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: September 4, 1996 <br /> I TO: Mayor and City Council r<' <br /> Brian Fritsinger, City Administrat@ <br /> FROM: <br /> I <br /> SUBJECT: Quad Ice Arena in Blaine <br /> I Background <br /> As the Council knows, the City has been involved in discussions related to a request to <br /> I participate in the proposal for a quad ice arena. This arena facility would be owned and operated <br /> by the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MAS C). <br /> I Councilmembers will recall the purpose of this facility is to provide four ice rinks under one roof <br /> to meet the growing needs for ice time. This need has been growing as a result of the recent <br /> growth in women's/girl's hockey. The purpose ofthe meeting tonight is to receive public input <br /> I into the need for, merits of, or opposition to the proposed facility. <br /> Ie Staff has also been meeting with Ramsey County officials to discuss a potential financial <br /> contribution by Ramsey County towards this project. A formal request was discussed by <br /> Ramsey County on September 3, 1996, but action was tabled pending additional information <br /> I from MASC. <br /> Required or Requested Action <br /> I The Council is not being asked to take any formal action at the September 9, 1996 meeting. The <br /> City Council will receive a detailed report prior to the September 30, 1996 meeting which will <br /> outline the pros and cons, discuss the financing and explain the Master and Supplemental <br /> I Agreements.
