I
I AET #96-2601 - Page 4
f' The boring logs only indicate the subsurface conditions at the sampled locations and variations often occur
I between and beyond borings.
Water Level Measurements
I Water levels were not observed within the boreholes after removal of the auger. Based on the
I available data, it appears the ground water level is beneath the termination depths of the borings.
I Ground water levels usually fluctuate. Fluctuations occnr due to varying seasonal and yearly rainfall and
snow melt, as well as other factors.
I G]:OTECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS.
, As background to our geotechnical considerations and recommendations, we refer you to the
'- attached standard sheet entitled "Bituminous Pavement Subgrade Preparation and Design." This
sheet describes items such as test roll evaluation, subgrade drainage and the benefits of a sand
, subbase.
I Review of Soil Properties
Strength/Stability
, Based on sample review and water content testing, it is our judgment that most of the clays in the
Colleen Avenue area are slightly to somewhat over the optimum water content condition (based
, on the Standard Proctor). Therefore, much of the soils are anticipated to be slightly to moderately
, unstable. None of the soils appear to be highly unstable. Favorable subgrade stability appears to
be present at Boring #6 on James Avenue.
, Compressibility
~. Since the streets are being improved at existing elevations, roadway settlements due to deeper
compressible soils would be negligible.
,
,
